My half way tips...

Ok so I'm only half way through and its my first but here are the things that have helped me survive! (sisters this is for you as we'll probably have similar symptoms xxx

Bananas in bed
yup I eat one of these before I even attempt to get up in the morning (which is late for me but for you guys it will be a lifesaver, means you can have a shower before breakfast without feeling ick.

9-12 eatathon
I was sooo hungry between 9 and 12 I just ate and ate and ate, luckily all I wanted was good food and fruit, but be prepared!

apples and pears
crazy I know but as soon as I'm feeling queasy or just plain strange (that happens a lot - you don't feel right but your not sure why)
Eat an apple! I eat at least 1 apple a day now along with other fruit and veg and in the beginning and it was apple and a pear a day, they're great cause they are portable too! no faffing

my water bottle
I carry this around with me everywhere - we're at altitude here in Denver so dehydration is a problem, but - I picked a really nice water bottle I could sip at without having to open constantly (lazy)
I even take it to bed with me to sip through the night, it gets refilled so much and I know I'm getting my required amount of water as another thing if you don't you feel queer too.

body pillow
as soon as I found out I was pregnant I put a pillow between Steve and I, sounds harsh but I felt so protective and Steve moves about a lot at night and also I felt I needed to have something there to lay against to be comfortable and to protect me from the occasional knee or foot (probably playing a game of footy in his sleep!) - now I have one both sides so I can switch sides in the night and not have to move the pillow- poor Steve its a good job we have a huge bed.

baby bel cheese and laughing cow spreads
Protein protein protein - America is obsessed with protein
I have an under active thyroid which was part of the issue with trying to get pregnant - if your having trouble getting pregnant get a thyroid test - I don't know its standard testing in the UK I was never testing in the UK though it was one of the first tests they did in the US.
Protein helps balance my thyroid, and is also really good for me - snacking on these helped me through the day, again easy and portable (well the baby bel is anyway)

elastic hair ties
To link through your button hole and around your button of jeans, I'm still in the same pair of jeans at the moment with the help of these and the belly band below - though its getting tight now getting them over my bum cheeks! boo maternity jeans here I come YUK!

belly bands
these are like boob tubes of elasticated cotton or elastic material that just sit over or under your bump and over the top part of your jeans - I love them and wouldn't have got this far without purchasing maternity jeans without them (which is a plus as I've yet to see a good pair of maternity jeans whether designer or not)

long vest tops
aeropostale do them these are my faves, they have a built in bra thingy which helps with support as you have to wear non wired bras! American eagle and express apparently do long ones too.
I'm so sad I wear a vest everyday though I did even when I wasn't pregnant, must just be my thing!

bio oil, aveeno, and palmers cocoa butter
Hey they all say they keep stretch marks at bay - I'm just not taking any chances I mix it up and use a different one each day! can't say I haven't tried!

mmmm can't think of anything else to add at the moment, I carried a copy of my scan pick around with me so when I was having a worried moment of 'I don't feel pregnant' it reassured me, I also always carry around a coolbag with food in it, whether its cold toast, cheese sandwiches, crackers, apples, or granola bars this has been my lifeline, people expect to see me with it now and question me when I haven't got it!

baby Names...

I always had a list of names I liked, well it wasn't a list as such but a whole page in the back of my list book, I only showed it to Steve the other day he thanked me for not showing it to him earlier.
I think he thinks I'm weird but with years of trying to get pregnant - you amass an amount of names and ideas.

BUT once I was actually pregnant the name page was whittled down as I looked at the names and saw that
a) some of the names had been used by my friends
b) some of the names we're just plain ridiculous
I ended up with only a few maybes.

The responsibility of naming a child is scary, they have it for the rest of their lives, such a responsibility we were going through name books so quickly just dismissing names.

Steve came home from work early on in the pregnancy with a girls name he thought of, I think he may have read it in the boys name section the night before and it obviously stuck in his brain and popped out for a girls name, he even had a nickname idea for it already! bless we're keeping it a secret as no one can help but comment on your names even if you say 'I love *****' people will say 'oh no that's awful' - erm I said I love that name????

so now we have 1 definite girls name and a possible back up and 2 possible boys names although we're not so in love with the boys names!

Girls
B
E

Boys
H
C

Any guesses??? PS one of my friends knows the B name so please keep it quiet xxxx

Freak out friday!

or just plain freaky Friday.

I got a load of magazines from the library and didn't look at the mags before I got home, very Eco, breastfeeding people on every page, earth mamma, natural birth style mags - so I was freaked
BUT I read and it has some really interesting article and opened me up a little to the natural way.

One thing I still don't think is necessary is boobs out on display in public, discreet breastfeeding is great- yeah I know its the most natural thing in the world and people need their rights!!! but so is sex and you wouldn't have sex in Starbucks!!!! think about it!

This video is amazing............freak out Friday!

delicious

oh this was blogged on decor8blog one of my daily read blogs  - I must add my list of blogs to this site, its on the to do list along with sooo many other things.

I just looked at this delicious e magazine, this photo below could be my 'girl' room mood board, I've been morning the loss of cookie magazine who are no longer in production booo, I read only 2 copies last year as well I wasn't gonna be a parent then, now I wish it was still around it was v stylish and modern and not too baby, parent, freaky but this fits the bill on that quirky artsy front with delicious design details too....

and this below is the wording from my list of fave songs would be nice framed, Colour I love colour....just a taste of the mag and I'm smitten.
I hope I'm uploading these photos correctly - other bloggers please let me know if I'm not!

Fishing...

Fishing at Rocky Mountain Lake this week or actually just thinking about fishing as Steve didn't get the rods out in the end - we also spent 2 evenings this week 'baiting up' - once in the pouring rain - I stayed in the car definitely a fair weather fisher woman I am

aaahhhh this is the life, picnic, blanket and Steve x perfect, I even had a little snooze while he did a radio interview bliss!

freak out friday!

I went to www.babiesrus for the first time, I'd picked up gifts from them before but I'd never been in to peruse the aisles for myself.
WHooooooh scary is not the word, there is so much choice I didn't know where to start I wanted to get a list of thing I need and a rough price to create a budget and to see what kind of stuff I could get from there and what I would have to research from the Internet or independent boutiques. - any advice welcome x

I stood stunned for a while then one of the staff saw my face and gave me a gift list book which has a recommended needs list for the baby.

So I began my list with prices and noting the names of the brands I like better than others, but then I got to BREAST PUMPS a scary concept in itself pumping ones breast with a machine- a staffer talked to me again and said was I going to breastfeed?
(erm I'm English those things are private - along with - please don't ask me if I'm planning a vaginal birth (said in american way 'vadge enn nal' awful word) - none of your business lady!)
The one she recommended as the best was $300+ for a breast pump and you have all these accessories to buy too, freezer bags who knew? microwave cleaning bags, list goes one......
I did not have that down on my list as a big purchase, that's more than the car seats - surely that's not right safety equipment cheaper that a yellow breast pump - with cute carry bag and microwave cleaning pouches eeeeek it almost made me want to run out.
Thankfully friends have calmed me down and have recommended battery powered one that's under $100 and because I'm not working full time I wont need one that much! phew I thought breastfeeding was supposed to be cheaper more convenient.

note to oneself be prepared I was a girl guide for goodness sake I should have done my homework then I wouldn't have been floored in the breast pump aisle! the rest of babiesrus went by in a blur after that will need to revisit! That's scary in itself!

Fishing trip...

We went for a little trip up to Estes Park a few weeks ago with friends, we stayed at the YMCA 3 bed cabin, beautiful views no TV!
We chatted and ate bbq food all night with a roaring fire ahhh

Then...we went fishing, oh yeah get use to reading that cause well we go fishing A LOT, this should be a fishing blog, baby you are gonna have to get to like fishing cause Daddy is OBSESSED!!!

I couldn't get down this hill and join in the fun, steve is way over protective, wrapped in cotton wool!
So he caught a fish for each child so cute but by the third fish and extremely happy child posing for a photo with his/ her fish I was in tears, call it hormones or what you will, oh my he's gonna be such a good dad!

R x

purchases so far....

Well, I agonized over this purchase - when is too soon?? should it be my first purchase?
Steve suggested we ask our OB/GYN! mmm not sure thats the questions our wonderful OB was thinking of when she said 'ask me question, you must have lots so ask away'

Well we got it on sale and it was a bargain - and I hit add to cart - whoop whoop it was purchased and I'm smitten

www.albeebaby.com

I went for the 4 wheel apparently its easier to steer, and I went for the red because I love my colour and black just seem so dark for little baby - I have seen a yellow orla kiely I'm smitten with that would zing this up a little more

This apple snuggy is from mamasandpapas uk I love their stuff its amazing, I also got these little dudes below all sent to my parents - so they can bring them out in august, they've arrived already and they love them, thou mum didn't realise they were robots, so fun
I'm already creating a list for boy and a list for girl from this store for my parents to bring out when baby arrives.

look at these little dudes they are going to become great friends with our little baby

R x

looking at this mix and wondering whether they will actually go together or if I've gone and got colour blindness?

More bumps

17 weeks picks...of out for a girlie night a D bar - mmmmm dates wrapped in bacon yum and a dessert to die for - queue was long but went quickly! bump grew overnight from eating so much goodies!

oh but I couldn't reverse park and some guy offered to park my car for me - I let him! hey I'm pregnant don't need the stress of reverse parking, never was good at that.

R x dreaming of D bar's 'Molten cake thingy everybody has'.....but hey, they do it best
bump pick - I'm catching up as these are old now.
I couldn't beleive how fast my bump appeared and was glad I wasn't at home trying to keep it a secret til 3 months!

I think I willed it to pop out early, smitten with my bump - I just keep rubbing it, I didn't think I'd be a bump rubber but I'm a manic one, my evenings are spent laying on the sofa with my bare tummy out rubbing away - feels so good!

R x

what if its two pink lines???

bad copies of these photos will try and post better ones once I get them scanned.

Steve thinks the top one looks like him! awe
The image second is the top of its head and it's sucking it's thumb, can you work it out?
bottom one is take a few weeks later steve thinks it looks like a girl eeeek

when I told my friends little 6 year old that I had a new photo of my baby she said 'is your baby still in black and white?'

R x

Why?

...because we got pregnant! Yeah... 18 weeks and 2 days took a while but good things come to those who wait, we waited and now we're are so over the moon absolutely smitten with this growing bump!

....because I live in Denver and my family and friends live in England so this is to keep in touch with them......so they can be with me every growing day (oh and I'm a growing big!) to witness every purchase, every nursery idea, every craving, oh to witness my every whim!

...because I decided to get my backside into gear to try and be creative this year before my baby takes all my time and blog to memorize my experiences to keep for forever like a journal, for some reason when you get pregnant you all of a sudden want to write journals and make memories to keep and tell your baby, so baby this is for you too.....argh scary!

ever thine
ever mine
ever ours
